Acidic skin pH plays a critical role in optimising cellular differentiation (cellular function), desquamation (cell turnover) and the synthesis of vital skin lipids.  Environmental skin damage caused by the sun, pollution and temperature extremes results in skin pH shifting from acidic to alkaline.
